Follow-up email after an interview
Different from a thank-you note. This is for when it's been a week or more since the interview and you haven't heard anything about next steps.

Subject: Checking in: [Role] interview
Hi [Interviewer's name], I hope you're doing well. I wanted to check in on the status of the [Role] position. I interviewed on [date] and remain very interested in the opportunity. Please let me know if there's any additional information I can provide, or if there's an updated timeline for a decision. Thank you again for your time and consideration. Best, [Your name]
Tips
- Timing: if they gave you a timeline, wait until it's passed before following up. If not, a week to 10 days is reasonable.
- Address it to the recruiter or interviewer, not a generic inbox, for the best chance of a reply.
- Still nothing after this? One more attempt is fine. See the second follow-up template. After that, it's usually time to move on and focus energy elsewhere.
Followup flags interviews that have gone quiet for 3+ days by default (you can adjust this) and drafts the check-in for you.
